L’identité forme un emblème illustrant la continuité dans le temps et la relation de la ville avec ses occupants, leur vie, leurs activités et leur appropriation de l’espace. Les entrées en villes, premier composant représentatif de la ville, connaissent une crise d’identité alarmante, entre la forme matérielle de la porte, connue depuis l’aube des temps et l’entité fonctionnelle assurant le passage de l’extérieur à l’intérieur de la ville. À travers les courants qui ont dominé le monde urbain, les pensées architecturales et la société entière depuis la Deuxième Guerre mondiale, une mutation considérable a touché les entrées, leurs figures, leurs usages et leurs destinations. D’une forme symbolique qui dépend des spécificités de chaque ville vers une forme fonctionnelle et universelle : de la modernité à la surmodernité de notre société, l’identité de cet espace a été mise en question. Fondées sur l’évolution historique des entrées, l’observation et le diagnostic de leurs nouvelles figures architecturales et urbaines, montrent la métamorphose de leur identité. Architectural and urban identity is a major issue in every project and intervention on the urban fabric of the city. Identity forms an emblem showing the continuity over time and its link with its own people, their lives, their activities and even their appropriation of space. City entrances, as the first representative element of the city, and between the material form of the door, known since the dawn of time, to a functional entity serving as a passage from the outside into the inside of the city, present an alarming identity crisis. Through several trends that have dominated the urban world, architectural thoughts as well as the entire society, since the Second World War, a considerable change has affected the city entrances, their forms, their functions and their destinations. From a symbolic form which depends on the singularity of each city to a functional and universal form, from the modernity to the over modernity of our current society, the identity of this space is questioned.
