Intrus, étranger, hôte, ami : ces appellations permettent d’aller au-delà de la représentation dominante du cancer-ennemi et de rendre compte des questionnements surgissant par rapport à la nature endogène ou exogène de la maladie, à sa présence à l’intérieur du corps et aux transformations qu’elle implique. Les interrogations liées aux modifications du corps, dues à la maladie et aux traitements, sont aussi au centre de notre analyse : la double finalité de cet article est d’identifier comment le cancer est intégré, via la narration, dans le parcours de vie de la personne malade et de faire émerger le rôle que ces écritures jouent dans la modification de la représentation du cancer dans la société. How is the experience of the illness understood in the works of writers suffering from cancer? Also, how is cancer represented? Intruder, foreigner, host, friend: these names allow for a representation that goes beyond the dominating one of a cancer-enemy, and heighten awareness of arising questions about the endogenous or exogenous nature of the disease, its presence inside the body, and the transformations that it implies. Inquiries related to changes in the body due to the disease and treatments are also at the center of this analysis. The twofold purpose of this article is to identify how cancer is integrated in the sick person’s life course via narration, and how to define the role that writers play in the modification of cancer representation in society.
